I’m excited to share that Andrea Zelinko has joined our team as the new director of Strategic Initiatives, Facilities Management. Andrea brings a wealth of experience in higher education leadership, strategic planning, and student affairs, and we are thrilled to welcome her to the Facilities Management family.

Andrea comes to us from the 91��Ƭ��AV, where she most recently served as associate vice chancellor for Student Affairs. In this role, she led cross-functional initiatives that enhanced student engagement, operational efficiency, and institutional resilience. Her leadership was instrumental in shaping strategic priorities and fostering inclusive, student-centered environments.

Over her 10+ years at CU Boulder, Andrea held several key positions in addition to her role as associate vice chancellor for Student Affairs, including:

Director of the University Memorial Center
Interim dean of students
Associate director and assistant director for administration at the University Memorial Center

In her new role with Facilities Management, Andrea will support me and the Facilities Management team by leading high-impact strategic initiatives, coordinating cross-campus capital projects, and serving as a key liaison with internal and external stakeholders. She will also play a vital role in aligning our division’s efforts with campus-wide goals, ensuring momentum on critical projects, and enhancing communication and collaboration across teams.

Please join me in giving Andrea a warm welcome! We’re excited for the vision, energy, and collaborative spirit she brings to our work.

We are excited to announce the appointment of Walter O’Toole as the new Assistant Director of Distribution Services. In this role, Walter will oversee all Distribution Services operations, including Property Services and the CU Boulder Surplus Store, Mail & Package Services, as well as the Facilities Management Stores and Distribution Services work units.

Walter brings over a decade of experience in logistics, supply chain management, and distribution across Boulder and the greater Colorado area. His extensive background and leadership will be a valuable asset to our team.

Volunteer leave available to I&R staff

I&R allows volunteer hours to be granted from work to serve the community in various ways. Volunteer time is credited on a fiscal year basis (July 1 through June 30). Some examples of this service may be as a volunteer worker at a charitable organization or attending a school function for one’s child or relative.

Volunteer leave must be requested from your supervisor and approved by the appointing authority.
16 hours of leave time is granted each fiscal year (pro-rated for appointments less than 100%). Staff who start on or after January 1 receive eight hours of volunteer time to be used before June 30.
Any unused portion as of June 30 is forfeited (hours do not roll forward).

We are excited to offer a new notary service for all I&R staff members to notarize business-related documents. This service is for paper documents only (we do not offer electronic or e-notary services).

Availability: By appointment only

Location: HR offices in RL2 or Stadium (Christina) or at the Grounds and Recycling Operations Center (Beth)

If you are a CU staff or faculty member from any other department on campus, you can reach out to Kelly Bush (campus HR) or Lillian Valenzuela (campus HR). They provide complimentary notary services for all of campus. There is also a (paid) notary service on campus at the UPS store (in Williams Village Center)

University Staff: CU allows full-time staff to keep a maximum of 44 days (or 352 hours) of vacation within a fiscal year (July 1 - June 30). If you meet this maximum, you must either take or schedule vacation before June 30, or you will lose it.

Classified Staff: Maximum accruals for Cassified staff members in regular appointments are based on months of service. See the Classified Staff Leave Policies chart for full details.

All staff should double check your leave balances now, and make plans to use any hours of vacation time over the maximum allowable accrual time before the July 1 leave sweep deadline. As always, vacation leave requests are subject to the approval of your supervisor; don’t wait until June to put in your leave requests. If you have any questions regarding vacation leave, please contact your supervisor.
